Evoke 5 patients and doctors across the 5 pillars of health

Our Five Pillars of Health & Wellness

At Evoke 5 Medical Center, a functional family medicine clinic in McKinney, our care is built upon the 5 Pillars of Health
& Wellness©—an approach developed and refined by our founder, Dr. Cas.

EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED

Functional medicine recognizes that all of the body’s systems are interconnected. Issues in one area often affect others. For
example, problems with physical wellness—like a poor diet or inadequate sleep—can lead to medical conditions such as
diabetes, heart disease or cancer. Similarly, mental health challenges can manifest as physical ailments, and dissatisfaction
with one’s appearance can impact both mental and physical health. A lack of purpose or stress management tools can also
contribute to various health problems. Toxins play a crucial role in chronic inflammation and cellular dysfunction (including
mitochondrial dysfunction). This is a major driver of chronic disease.

WHOLE BODY WELLNESS

With this understanding, our 5 Pillars approach focuses on “whole body wellness,” addressing:

MEDICAL WELLNESS

PHYSICAL WELLNESS

MENTAL WELLNESS

SPIRITUAL WELLNESS

AESTHETIC WELLNESS

When working with patients, we take the time to explore each of these areas, designing individualized treatment plans to
address specific issues and strengthen each pillar.

Medical Wellness

At Evoke 5, we believe true health encompasses more than weight, blood
pressure, and heart rate. Medical Wellness integrates all aspects of our
mind and body, including Medical, Physical, Mental, Spiritual and
Aesthetic Wellness.

Managing or preventing medical conditions is key to maximizing quality of
life. Conditions like hypertension, diabetes, cholesterol imbalances,
hormone disorders, thyroid issues, autoimmune diseases, and toxin
build-up can all be addressed through the Medical Wellness pillar.

Gut health is central to our approach, as inflammation in the gut often
underpins chronic diseases. By reducing gut inflammation, many patients
have controlled or reversed chronic conditions.

Chronic diseases have been steadily increasing, despite the fact that the
use of prescription medication is at an all-time high. While medication can
be necessary, we aim to balance its use with effective alternatives,
adhering to a minimalist and realistic approach to prescriptions.

Physical Wellness

We have seen so much time and resources wasted on preventable
disorders. What’s frustrating is that many of these disorders can be
managed or avoided with simple diet and exercise changes! At Evoke 5,
Physical Wellness is a cornerstone of patient care.

We know there is no one-size-fits-all solution. What’s right for one person
could actually keep another person from progressing toward their health
goals. Personalized diet and exercise plans—informed by in-depth
discussions and genetic testing—help our patients achieve their health
goals.

Physical wellness is about more than food and exercise. It also extends to
the way we think—or don’t think. We encourage our patients to think
about “living consciously” and avoid habits like mindlessly overeating, not
taking the time to thoroughly chew and enjoy our food, sitting on the
couch for hours in the evening, and putting off exercise until it is too late in
the day.

The hardest part of making positive lifestyle changes is sticking to it.
You’re not alone—we all struggle with it! We make a point to work with
our patients to find and tap into their own inner motivation. Remember:
Consistent movement in the right direction—even small, simple steps—is
key to success.

Mental Wellness

Mental health is equally important as physical health, making Mental
Wellness a vital pillar of our approach.

Mental Wellness is relevant for everyone, not just those experiencing
conditions like depression or anxiety. We help patients develop
techniques and support systems to manage everyday stressors effectively.
For those with mental health conditions, we explore various factors—such
as age-related brain changes, sleep quality, gut health and exercise—to
identify personalized solutions.

As with all of our care, we seek a balanced approach, integrating
medication and alternative treatments to address mental health concerns
holistically.

Spiritual Wellness

While spirituality isn’t something you commonly talk with your doctor
about, we believe it’s an important facet of the 5 Pillars of Health and
Wellness©. Growing research shows the power of practices like breathing
techniques, meditation and other spiritual wellness practices.

Spiritual wellness is not about religion or denomination. It’s about finding
purpose, grounding, and connecting with a higher power or inner
peace—however that resonates with you.

What spiritual wellness looks like is different for each of us. For some
people, it may be meditation or yoga. Others may find well-being by
attending church or going on long walks. We help patients identify what
Spiritual Wellness means to them and incorporate it into their lives.

Aesthetic Wellness

Outer health impacts inner health, and vice versa, which is why Aesthetic
Wellness is one of our 5 Pillars. Aesthetic Wellness is closely tied to other
pillars. For example, feeling bad about how you look can contribute to
depression, anxiety and other mental wellness concerns. Inflammation,
poor gut health and other conditions affecting medical wellness can
negatively impact your appearance. And diet and nutrition—which are
foundations of physical wellness—play a critical role in looking your best.

There are so many different options to help you look—and feel—good
these days. It can be overwhelming! We guide patients to identify natural,
minimally invasive ways to achieve their aesthetic goals.

It’s very important to note that “looking good” doesn’t mean you have to
look like the model on the cover of a magazine. We emphasize that looking
good is about feeling confident, not conforming to societal standards.
